ProBoards provides forums for multiple purposes. This site uses the forum as the medium for an RP, as well as a general chat area for topics that may or may not be related to EEKnight's Age of Fire series. The basis for this is, of course, the post. But before we get to that, we should start at the beginning.
The home page displays all of the boards, divided into categories. All posts are made in threads, which are kept on the different boards. Each thread usually focuses on one topic only, such as a development with the series, a game, or an RP plot.
You can post in the threads on some boards without being a member of the site. However, for most of the site's boards, you must be a member to start or reply to threads. There should be links to log in or register on most pages of the site. To register, you will need to provide your e-mail address and your age; once you register, an activation code will be sent to the e-mail you provided, which you must use to activate your account so you can start posting.
There are thre ways to post: going to a board and clicking the button that says "start new thread" (or "start new poll"), or going into a thread and clicking either the "reply" button or typing in the "quick reply" text box at the bottom of the screen. Once you have access to a text box, start typing. I suggest that, when replying to something, actually use the "reply" button - unless you know your ProBoards tags by heart. Some examples of tags include <i></i> to italisize words, <url></url> to insert a link, <center></center> to center align the text you're typing, and to make subscripts, just to name a few (though use [] instead of <>). The post message screen you get to by clicking the reply button will put these tags in for you if you highlight the text you want, and allows other features like changing your message icon (the image by the thread name on the board), add emoticons, and other options about the thread itself.
One final important feature you should be familiar with is the modify button. If a staffer has asked you to change an aspect of one of your posts, (this is especially improtant for working on char bios,) or you jsut saw something you typed and posted earlier that you now want changed, just clicking the "modify" button at the right of the post you want to change will open up the text box as it was the instant before it was posted. From there you can modify the content of your post. Please also know that moderators can modify posts that are not theirs.
